Red

It is fall again.

The leaves have begun to turn, and soon

the entire place will fill with the oranges, yellows and reds of autumn.

The red sun as it sets will begin to set sooner

The red skies after a storm

Soon will be fewer and farther between.

Red heat, red hot.

The fires of fall fill the air

with the smoky heat and red light of the season.

Red heat, red hot.

My face as I blush again.

What was that?

How did you mean it?

Oh right.

Red heat, red hot.

Red cheeks, red faces,

the red of happy and the red of shame.

Red heat, red hot.

Red tomatoes, red peppers,

red candies made of cinnamon.

Red shades of darkness.

Red heat, red hot.

Red needs, red desires, red choices.

Do these things exist?

Red heat, red hot.

Red necessities and red quiet.

As the red falls out of the trees,

the blue skies overtake us

and stretch their cold hands

down, down to the earth.

While the red heat, red hot goes to sleep,

waiting for the next warm sunrise.
